About Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe is the first strategy game most of us ever learned, scratched into school desks long before anyone put it on a screen. Two players take turns marking X and O on a 3x3 grid, racing to claim three squares in a row. The rules vanish in ten seconds, yet the psychology never quite does: wins, losses, and the eternal draw all hinge on a handful of opening moves. This Zapludo version dresses the old favourite in animated marks that pop into the grid and tracks X wins, O wins, and draws on a scoreboard. Its headline feature is the unbeatable AI: on Hard, the computer plays perfect minimax, so you cannot win, only force a draw and claim the moral victory.

How to Play Tic-Tac-Toe

Choose vs AI to play the computer or vs Friend to share the keyboard with a local player. You are X and always move first; in friend mode, X is player one and O is player two. Click any empty square to place your mark and the animated symbol draws itself into the cell. Play continues until someone lines up three marks in a row, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, or the grid fills for a draw. The AI pauses to think before answering: Easy moves randomly, Medium grabs wins and blocks yours, and Hard plays perfect minimax, so the best result you can reach is a draw. Scores accumulate across rounds until you reset them from the scoreboard.

Tips & Strategies

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Hard AI actually be beaten?

No. Hard mode plays a perfect minimax strategy, so with best play the AI never loses, and your realistic goal is a draw. The same logic guarantees you can never lose either, as long as you answer the AI's opening correctly.

How is the scoreboard kept?

The board tracks X wins, O wins, and draws for the current session and updates after every round, highlighting the latest winner beside the counter. A Reset Scores button zeroes all three totals whenever you want a fresh tally.

What is the difference between the three difficulties?

Easy picks a random empty square, Medium takes a winning move when it has one and otherwise blocks your threats, and Hard uses a full minimax search to play perfectly. Easy and Medium can be beaten; Hard is a puzzle in its own right.
