About World Capitals Quiz

World capitals are the classic test of geographic knowledge — the kind of trivia that decides pub quiz nights and settles family arguments. This quiz turns that knowledge into a fast, replayable game: ten multiple-choice questions per round, drawn from a bank of over 130 countries, with an emphasis on capitals people genuinely mix up. Choose to play the whole world or drill into a single region, answer fast for a time bonus, and build a streak multiplier by getting consecutive questions right. It is equally good as a solo brain-teaser or a competitive round with friends.

How to Play the Capitals Quiz

Each round presents ten questions. Every question names a country and asks for its capital, and you choose from four possible cities — only one is correct. Click an answer or press the number keys 1 to 4 to respond quickly. A correct answer scores 100 points plus a time bonus of up to 50 points for speed, multiplied by your current streak (up to 3×). A wrong answer ends your streak, but the game continues, and you will see the correct answer highlighted so you learn it. At the end of the round you get a full summary with your score, accuracy, best streak, and a review list of every question you missed — the fastest way to improve for next time.

Tips & Strategies

Do not confuse the largest city with the capital: Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, nor is Sydney the capital of Australia.
Learn the tricky pairs early — Ankara, Canberra, Bern, Brasilia, Ottawa, and Wellington are among the most-missed answers.
Some countries have multiple capitals for different functions (South Africa, Bolivia); this quiz uses the seat of government.
Use the region modes to drill a continent you are weak on rather than repeating the whole world.
Speed matters, so trust your first instinct on questions you know — hesitation costs the time bonus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many countries are in the quiz?

The question bank covers over 130 countries across every inhabited continent. Each round draws ten questions, so between rounds the mix changes and you are unlikely to see the same set twice in a row.

How is the score calculated?

Each correct answer is worth a base 100 points plus up to 50 points for answering quickly, and the total is multiplied by your streak (up to three times). So a fast answer deep into a streak is worth far more than a slow early one.

Is the quiz good for students?

Yes — the end-of-round review lists every question you missed alongside the correct answer, turning mistakes into a study list. It is a genuinely effective revision tool for geography students, and the region modes let you focus on the continent you are studying.
