Falling Blocks needs no introduction. Since 1984 it has been the world standard for falling-block puzzles, appearing on arcade machines, handheld consoles, and office computers. Seven shapes, the tetrominoes I, O, T, S, Z, J, and L, drop one by one into a ten-wide well, and your job is to rotate and slide them into tidy rows. Every complete line vanishes and the stack settles, while the falling speed climbs with each level. This version serves pieces from a fair seven-bag randomizer, shows a ghost preview of every landing spot, and adds a satisfying hard drop for quick, precise play.
The arrow keys control everything. Left and right slide the falling piece, up rotates it, and down soft-drops it into place sooner. Space performs an instant hard drop, slamming the piece down as far as it can go. A translucent ghost outline shows exactly where the current piece will land. Fill horizontal rows with no gaps and they clear, and every ten lines pushes you to the next level with a faster fall. Clear four lines at once with the long I piece for the biggest score bonus. The next piece is always previewed, so plan ahead. The round ends when a new piece cannot enter the well, leaving your stack and final score as the record to beat.
A single-line clear is worth 100 points, but a four-line clear with the I piece, called a Falling Blocks, is worth 800. Because the level multiplier applies on top of that total, saving the long piece for one dramatic clear is the fastest route to a huge score.
Instead of pure random draws, the game shuffles the seven tetrominoes into a bag and deals them one at a time, then shuffles a fresh bag. You are guaranteed to see every piece before any shape repeats, which makes planning ahead realistic.
The ghost is the translucent outline that marks where the falling block will land if you hard-drop right now. It removes guesswork about depth, letting you concentrate on rotation and sideways positioning instead. Beginners can watch it to learn how pieces settle, and experts use it to plan placements without counting rows.
